You can work towards the next level and/or choose other courses, such as Digital Skills, maths or an online course.

For details, please email Angela Cato angela.cato@buckinghamshire.gov.uk or call 01296 674463. Angela will explain how to enrol for a 'Start Here for English?' assessment. This assessment is marked by our GCSE English tutors who will contact you with your results, feedback and your next steps.

Learner Reviews

'I’m currently attending Bucks  Adult Learning, Aylesbury doing a Functional Skills in English course. When I first started I was obviously nervous due to how I felt at school, but there was no need as everyone from staff, tutors and my fellow classmates made me feel welcome. We all support each other which is really nice. If you are thinking of taking a course, definitely do one as you won’t look back!' - Clare

'I have a fantastic tutor who makes me feel like I can do anything if I put my mind to it.' - Anon (Learner Survey 2024)

'Excellent course!' - (Learner Survey 2024)

'I am very grateful for all the help and support I have received. I will continue to practise to reinforce and consolidate what I have learned.' - (Learner Survey 2024)

'I really enjoyed this course and will continue with other courses too.' - (Learner Survey 2024)

'This course is easy to follow because the tutor explains it well. She comes around and shows you what to do while you are working'. - Jeanette

'First I was doing the Entry level, and then I  moved up in English to Level 1 and in maths to Entry Level 3. Since doing these courses, my vocabulary has improved. Even my kids say I’m using good vocabulary. Also, I've started to take an interest in reading as well.'

'I’ve started using maths at home, such as trying fractions when cooking (like 2 quarters make a 1/2 tsp).'

'Tutors & helpers in the class are so helpful. I'm so glad I’ve joined and am doing these courses. It's making me want to do further levels'. - Hameeda

'I enjoyed every class and have learned to be confident while speaking in front of people.   Also the staff that were working with us were very helpful and supportive.' - JS

I’ve passed Functional Skills Level 2 - another hurdle I have overcome! Thanks to all the help I received as I prepared, I felt fairly confident in the exam. I’m so grateful.

This isn’t the end of my learning journey with Bucks Adult Learning, but thank you for being part of it. I can definitely recommend the Service to anyone thinking of joining a class.  Catherine P
